Working with Newcomer Volunteers

At this summer workshop Ingrid will shed light on how the Volunteer Action Centre’s interactive online Working with Newcomer Volunteers training modules can provide you with tangible steps to build bridges across cultural differences and strengthen a sense of belonging in your nonprofit.

By the end of this workshop, volunteer managers will:

i) Understand intercultural communication competence as a developmental process;

ii) Identify tangible steps to enhancing intercultural communication skills and understanding;

iii) Understand how intercultural competence can help make the transition from diversity to deeper inclusion in your nonprofit;

iv) Learn about intercultural competence assessments and intercultural development plans – at the individual or group level.

About the Facilitator: This session will be facilitated by Ingrid Brand (Volunteer Action Centre). Prior to VAC, Ingrid has worked as an intercultural coach and she has worked in the field of education in Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait and Canada.
