Trends, Challenges and Opportunities in Not-For-Profit Governance (Part 2)

Based on a recent survey of Waterloo-Wellington charities and not-for-profit organizations, Don, Kevin and Alan McDermott from BoardSupport.ca will describe current trends and examples of how your organization will be successful in the future.

In a two part series using discussion opportunities and time for questions and examples, they will talk about:

Session 1 (May 2):

  • Best board practices for Strategic Planning. Presenter – Don McDermott
  • How do we know we are achieving our Mission? Presenter – Don McDermott
  • What is Enterprise Risk and how do we include this process in our operations? Presenter – Alan McDermott

 

Session 2 (June 14):

  • Is partnership right for our organization? Presenter – Kevin and Don McDermott
  • What is Social Enterprise and will it work for us? Presenter – Kevin McDermott
  • Are we ready for a Public Relations campaign? Presenter – Kevin McDermott

Note: In order to attend both workshops, each participant will require to sign up for each part separately. Thank you.   

Attendees should feel free to bring their Organizational Mission Statements and topic related concerns they are willing to share with the group at the workshops. Participants will work on these concerns using instructions and tools provided by the facilitators that they can then take back to their boards for sharing and fuller discussion.

About the Facilitators:

Don McDermott has over 40 years of leadership experience in the health care sector. He has supported or sat on over 20 not-for-profit boards.

Alan McDermott is an operations and risk professional who has lead teams in strategy development and risk audit. He is currently AVP Information Security and IT Risk at Economical Insurance.

Kevin McDermott is Assistant Professor at the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics at Wilfred Laurier University specializing in Organizational Leadership. His research includes resource mobilization including crowdfunding and social enterprise.

Fee: $45 for members* or $59 for non-members.

Registration & Cancellation Policy: Fees for workshops, training opportunities, and events are due prior to or on the date of the event. The Waterloo-Wellington Learning Alliance reserves the right to request fees in advance. Participants who have registered for a workshop, training opportunity, or event with the Waterloo-Wellington Learning Alliance will be invoiced for the fee associated with the event if cancellation is not made at least 3 business days prior to the date and time of the event. Cancellation fees will be waived if the participant can find and guarantee an alternate to attend. The Waterloo-Wellington Learning Alliance reserves the right to cancel a workshop. In the event of cancellation, full refunds will be issued to all paid registrants within one month.
